Harrah resident Charles A. Coker died Sunday in Midwest City at the age of 85. He was born June 15, 1916 in Etowah to Richard and Laura Coker.
He attended Oklahoma Baptist University and pastored several churches in Oklahoma. In 1958, he resigned his pastorate at Sunnylane Baptist Church of Del City to enter Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After graduating in 1962, he pastored several churches in Missouri and Ohio. He also served as a counselor at the Baptist Children's Home in St. Louis, Missouri and served as a family counselor in Ohio.
He retired from the ministry in 1984 and returned to Shawnee. He was an organist for Blackburn Chapel for several years.
He married Frances Lorene Menius on September 28, 1938.
Survivors include his wife of the home, sister, Lucy Davis, seven children and their spouses, Carole and Kenneth Glover, Paul and Roberta Coker, Myrl and Mike Palmer, Lynda and Larry Neely, Truett Coker, Connie Coker and Rick Coker, nineteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. today at the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Mixon and the Rev. John Coker officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is in charge of arrangements.
The family has designated New Hope Baptist Church as appropriate for memorials.
