Johnson Gainous was a farmer and lived all of his life on the farm east of Wayside School. During WWI, he served in the Navy along with his brothers, Hardy and Jason. On January 21, 1923, Johnson married Beulah Mae Faircloth, daughter of Jack C. and Alice Crosby Faircloth. Beulah was born April 26, 1902, in Mitchell County near Sale City and moved with her family to Grady County in 1912. They were members of Springhill Methodist Church. Their children are: Merle married Douglas Bennett; Douglass Dewitt married Minnie Lewis; Larry Benson married Dorothy Newberry; Jean Marie married Kenneth Helmer; and Jimmy Leland married Annette Trawick.
