Father to 2 sons and grandfather to 6 grandchildren.

William was a member of the ILWU Local 6, an honorably discharged veteran of the Army National Guard, and enjoyed mechanical work, gardening, the outdoors, and always helped others with any project.

He and his wife were known as "Mom and Dad" to many who knew them and were deeply in love with each other. They were always at each others side and remained so until their passing.

William passed away on December 20, 2008 at the age of 71 and shortly thereafter Betty passed away as well, on December 22, 2008 at the age of 66. Loving parents to Michael Jessop and his wife, Queliya, of Newark, and James Jessop and his wife, Nina, of Los Banos. Cherished grandparents to Nicholas, Cody, Amiya, Armon, Amari, and Leah. William is survived by sisters, Allie Fors of Salt Lake City, UT, Ellen Holmes, and Mable Johnson, both of Hildale, UT, and brothers, Thomas Jessop of Hildale, UT, Albert Jessop, and Joseph Jessop, both of Cane Beds, AZ, John Jessop of Spirit Lake, ID, and Hyrum Jessop of St. George, UT. Betty is survived by sister, Louise Kay and her husband, LaMar of Redding. Betty is preceded in death by her sister, Karen Suzanne Jessop. Mr. & Mrs. Jessop are also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Born June 12, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Mr. Jessop grew up in Milville, Utah for his first 5 years before the family moved to Southern Utah. He lived in Southern Utah until he turned 18 and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. While living in Utah he met and eventually married Mrs. Jessop on December 27, 1961.

In early 1965 they moved to Fremont after Mr. Jessop got a job with Central Solvents & Chemicals Company (later named Chemcentral) where he would work as a warehouseman for the next 35 years.

They moved to Newark in February 1966 where they made their home until their deaths. Mr. Jessop was a member of the ILWU Local 6, an honorably discharged veteran of the Army National Guard, and enjoyed mechanical work, gardening, the outdoors, and always availed himself to others to assist them with any project.

Born August 9, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Jessop was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. After marrying and moving to California, Mrs. Jessop did volunteer work at E. L. Musick School in the 60's and 70's where she served in various capacities with the PTA and also worked as a volunteer with special education children. She received a lifetime achievement award for her work with the PTA. She owned and operated Caravan Bookshop in Fremont for several years in the 70's. She enjoyed crafts, reading, and homemaking, and was an avid doll collector.

They both placed a high value on family and education and were known as "Dad" and
"Mom" by many. They were always at each other's side and remained so until their passing. They will be remembered most for their deep love and devotion for each other and the love and kindness they always extended to those they met.

Visitation Tuesday, December 30, 5-8pm with a prayer service at 6pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, 94536.
A chapel service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 9:30am at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Fremont.
