Our dear father and husband, Albert Marriott Jessop Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully into his next adventure after suffering an accidental fall at his home in Cedar City, Utah, in which he suffered a broken pelvis and a brain hemorrhage on January 17, 2023.

Albert was born on April 18, 1934, in Millville, Utah, to Joseph Smith Jessop and Gertrude Annie Marriott. He was the second of eight children. As a young boy he and his brothers liked to go down to the barn and smoke Cedarbark which caught the family barn on fire.

When Albert was 8 years old the family moved to Short Creek on the back of a horse drawn wagon (Grandpa Jessop's Old Wooden Wagon), and he attended school in the old Short Creek school yard where they had to walk 2 miles across the old rickety wooden bridge on the other side of town.

He was married to Noreen Johnson on November 2, 1956, in Fredonia, Arizona.

He served 18 months in the Korean War as a chef, and served also as a guard over the prisoners, despite not having a birth certificate. After 79 years he finally got a birth certificate.

Albert certainly got to see a lot of our great state! You could say he lived from hell to breakfast starting with Millville, Short Creek, Salt Lake City, Hildale, Cane Beds, Meadow, New Harmony, and last, but not least, Cedar City.

Albert was a hard-working fool that dedicated many, many hours a day to keep his family going. He was a jack of all trades and master of a few. He was a long-haul truck driver for a number of years, and then became one of the best steel construction welders and painters for over 26 years. He finally retired from Microtech Polyseal as a Machinist in his late 70's.

Albert had few dislikes in this life and never required much entertainment except the television and the remote control. His favorite hobby when he was younger was driving all the way to the theater in Panguitch with his brother, Tom, and then drive back home to Hildale. He said for many years that when he retired, he would watch TV to his last dying day in his rocking chair and that he did! He loved watching westerns, action, and Fox News.

His love for his children and grandchildren ran deep and he always made it a point to remind them how much he, and their heavenly Father, loved them.

Albert had the Jessop gift of gab and with a witty tongue that could tell stories until the cows came home. We could go on, just like he did, with storytelling but we will cut it short with one last tidbit- Albert had many girlfriends but settled for just one that lasted 65 years of dodging pots and pans from Noreen.

He is survived by his wife, Noreen Johnson, and children, Melvina, Betty, Nancy, Albert Jr., Ron, Laurice, Gertrude, and Jayson. 42 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, his brothers John, Joseph, Hyrum, and sisters, Ellen and Mable.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Smith Jessop, Gertrude Annie Marriott, children Deanna (memorial106769314) , Morgan (memorial 150067822), and grandsons, Brandon, Gabriel & Little Ron (memorial 19840174), and his brothers Thomas and William.

Funeral Services will be short and sweet, just like Albert wanted.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11:00 am, at the Holm Heritage Center, 1065 North Carling Street, Hildale, Utah. The visitation will take place from 9:00 – 10:30 am, prior to services.

In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to Albert Marriott Jessop Sr. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah.
