Clarissa K. Merritt, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at the Star Valley Care Center in Afton at the age of 88.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 19, 2000, in the Afton 4th Ward Chapel with burial at the Afton Cemetery.
Clarissa was born April 3,1912 in Thatcher AZ, to George Seward Kennington and Ada Caroline Kimball Kennington. Clarissa and her twin sister Berniece lived with Oz and Mary Ann Lowe for the first two year of their lived, due to their mother's death at their birth.
After Clarissa's father remarried, the babies joined their father and his wife, Martha Weber Kennington. Five brothers and five sister were born to the Kenningtons.
Clarissa grew up in Afton and graduated from Star Valley High School. On Sept 3, 1931, she married Ozro H. Merritt in the Salt Lake Temple.
The couple lived in Bedford as well as Rock Springs and Salt Lake City, until they moved to Afton were they resided until their deaths.
Clarissa was a wonderful cook and homemaker who lived to serve others in any way that she could. She also enjoyed serving in many leadership capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which she was an active member. She served as Primary, Young Women and ward and stake Relief Society presidents.
Clarissa enjoy close relationships with several other widows in the Afton area, after her husband died on Aug 3, 1983.
She remained living at home until her health condition required constant care. She moved into the Star Valley Care Center in June of 1998 and resided there until her death.
She is survived by one daughter Ada Clarice Wolfley, three sons, George K Merritt, Harold Lynn Merritt and Von Merritt; four brothers, two sisters, 14 grand children, 33 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters, two brothers and one great-granddaughter.
