Jesse J. Brister, 74, of Sikes, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 1968 at Columbia Heights Nursing Home. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services were conducted at Hurricane Grove Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Hardy Beaubouef, Rev. John Kitchingham, and Rev. Norris Curry officiating. Interment, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Alice Brister of Sikes; two sons, S. Sgt. Huey P. Brister of Fort Riley, Kan., and J. H. Brister of Baton Rouge; six daughters, Mrs. Louise Yelverton, Mrs. Eloise Strickland, and Mrs. Hilda Shipp, all of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Frank Cannon of Monroe, Mrs. Christine Nettles of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mrs. Ellen Kennedy of Falls Church, Va.; six brothers, Spurgeon Brister of Sikes, Homer and Carl Brister of West Monroe, Lawson Brister of Baton Rouge, Houston Brister of Sieper, and J. W. Brister of Gardner; six sisters, Mrs. W. A. Willis of Sikes, Mrs. Maude Holley of Bastrop, Mrs. Bernice Dyess, Mrs. Edgar Waldron, both of Gardner, Mrs. Lorene Gray of Alexandria, and Mrs. Jettie Hahn of Houston; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
