J. W. Sikes, who celebrated his 86th birthday May 6, died in a Winnfield hospital at 5 a.m. Thursday, May 24, following a stroke he suffered last Monday. A retired farmer, he was a native of Sikes, but for a number of years has been residing with his daughter, Mrs. Troy Adams of Gaars Mill. He was a long time member and deacon of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, at the Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mr. Martin and Rev. Paul Hammons of Jonesboro officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sikes' wife and four sons preceded him in death. He leaves four daughters, Mrs. Dave Simmons, Sikes, Mrs. Troy Adams and Mrs. Clyde Parker, Gaars Mill, and Mrs. Tommie Chaddick, Shreveport; 17 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Arlie [sic Arley] Thompson of Sikes.
