Funeral services for Alfred William Penn Emmons, 81 years, 15 days, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ira White, Sikes, Sunday, July 3, were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sikes Baptist Church. Rev. Clovis Cole conducted the last rites and burial was made in the Sikes Cemetery.

Acting as pallbearers were Oswald White, Douglas Hatcher, Carroll Hatcher, Lawrence Parker, L. V. Johnston, and J. C. Jackson.

Mr. Emmons, born in Sikes, was the son of the late Robert "Bob" Emmons and Susan Thornton Emmons, pioneer residents of Winn. He was born and reared on the same site and when he married he moved to an adjoining 40 acres where he lived the remainder of his life.

A retired school teacher and farmer, he was active in civic and church work, having been a deacon of the Sikes Baptist Church 55 years. He served one term as police juror of Ward Seven and two years as president of the Sikes State Bank.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Crain Emmons of Sikes; five sons, Homer, Japan; R. E. and M. O., of Sikes; Grayson of Shreveport; and Roy of Lake Charles; three daughters, Mrs. Ira White, Rt. 1, Dodson; Mrs. Jesse Hatcher, Sikes; Mrs. Homer Parker, Winnfield; one brother, W. S. Emmons, Sikes; one sister, Mrs. Cuma Crain, Dodson.

He also leaves 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
