"Nyle Bertsche, 39 year-old farmer of near Flanagan, died at 5:45 a.m. today at St. Francis Hospital of heat prostration after being overcome while working in the field yesterday noon. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. from the family home, southeast of Flanagan, and at 2 p.m. from the Meadows Mennonite church by the pastor, the Rev. Gundy, conducting.
Mr. Bertsche was born September 8, 1898, on a farm southeast of Flanagan, son of John and Phoebe Bertsche. He was married to Miss Iva McCormick at Flanagan, February 15, 1922.
Throughout his life, Mr. Bertsche engaged in farming in the vicinity of Flanagan.
Mrs. Bertsche survives with three daughters, Frances, Lois and Ruth, and two sons, John Richard, and Milton, all at home. Also surviving are the deceased's mother, Mrs. John Bertsche; three sisters, Misses Sarah and Lucille Bertsche of Flanagan, and Mrs. Linda Jacobs of Pontiac; and two brothers, Almon of Flanagan and Orville of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mr. Bertsche's father died May 27. A son also preceded him in death in May, 1937."
A funeral was held at the church and Nyle was buried next to his son, Dale, in Waldo Cemetery.
