John Bertsche was a son of Nyle Lynn and Iva Gertrude McCormick Bertsche. He married Marjorie Ann Roof on August 29, 1948.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Milton Bertsche and Dale Bertsche and one sister, Frances Slagel.

He graduated from Flanagan High School in 1944 and served our country in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1945 to 1946.
