Mr. Lapington died Aug. 27, 1996, at his residence. He was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Van Zandt County to the late Price Leslie and Nora Lee Chaney Lapington. He grew up in Van Zandt County but lived most of his life in Dallas, returning to Grand Saline in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star Medal and EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars. He retired from the Dallas Fire Department after 28 years service, and was a member and former elder of the Fruitvale Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Lapington, in 1976. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lola Lapington; two daughters, Julie Pritchett, Dallas, and Charlotte Rutland, Conroe; brother, Irby Lapinton, Henderson, Kentucky; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
