Irby Lee Lapington, 101, died on Monday, August 8, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Hospice Center in Henderson, KY, with his family by his side.

He was born on June 23, 1915, in Van Zandt County, TX, the son of Price and Nora Lapington. He came to Illinois in the late 1930's to work in the oil field. He was employed by Halliburton Oil Well and Cementing Company for 35 years, working most of his career as a fieldman. He retired from the company in 1974 and remained in Henderson until his passing.

He married Helen Lucille Doty on February 23,1940. They were married for 68 years until her passing on March 1, 2008. Together, they enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, walking and family time. Irby was loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was longtime member of the Church of Christ in Henderson, KY.

Irby is survived by six of his seven children. His daughters are Barbara Conley of Charleston, IL, Janet Leathers of Marion, OH, and Judy Sigler of Mt. Carmel, IL. His sons are James Lapington of Little Rock, AR, Wayne and wife RickiLapington of Louisville, IL, Stevan and wife Karen Lapington of McLeansboro, IL, and son-in-law Edgar Bass of Wakeman, OH. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by brother-in-laws Harold Doty and Sam Miller, and sister-in-laws Lois Shull, Evelyn Miller, Orda Doty, Janet Doty and Jeanne Doty.

Irby was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, his daughter Carol Bass, son-in-laws John Conley, Stan Leathers and Ron Sigler and daughter-in-law Julie Lapington.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 13th, 2016, at the Church of Christ of Beecher City, IL. The Reverend Gary Puryear will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of service. Interment will be Beecher City cemetery.
