A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, Oh. who reached her 71st birthday two weeks ago, Mrs. Emma Brunner Schirrmann, wife of George J. Schirrmann, passed away shortly after noon Sunday, Aug. 18, 1946, at their home. 720 Fifth St. Death followed an illness of several months.
She was a daughter of Jacob and Katherine Widdig Brunner, pioneer settlers of Portsmouth. She was born Aug 3, 1875.
On New Years day, 1900, the former Miss Brunner was wed to Mr. Schirrmann, a childhood sweetheart. In the early days of their marriage, Mr. Schirrmann operated a livery stable business and later owned and managed a garage after automobiles replaced the horse and buggy. He retired several years ago.
Beside her husband, she is survived by a son, George J. Schirrmann, Jr, 1901 Franklin Ave. and two grandchildren, George J. Schirrmann IV and Suzanne Schirrmann. Also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary Petit of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. John Hermann, and a brother, Gus Brunner of Portsmouth, Oh.
The body may be viewed at the residence until taken to Daehler Funeral Home at noon for services by Rev. Herbert M. Goetz, pastor of First Evangelical and Reformed Church, of which Mrs. Schirrmann was a lifelong member. Burial in family lot in Greenlawn Cemetery.
