Woodward was the son of Susanna Woodward and Charles Latham. He married Rebecca Dean on September 22, 1763. They had 6 children: Galen, George, Eliab, Susanna, Dean and Barzillai. Woodward was a corporal in the Massachusetts Militia. He and son Eliab fought side by side in the colonial forces from MA during the Revolutionary War.
