Evelyn l. Edwards, age 85, died Sunday afternoon, December 16, 2007, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
She was born June 6, 1922, in Beaver, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Anderson) Padgett. As a young girl she attended grade school at the Western Gem Grade School in rural Meade County and later the Fowler school system. On September 29, 1940, she married Purn David “P.D.” Edwards at Liberal, Kansas. After their marriage the couple moved to Eads, Colorado, making their home there for many years. Later, in 1982, they returned to Meade County where they have remained.
She was a farmer and had worked as a waitress for many area restaurants.She was a member of the First Christian Church of Fowler and the Christian Matrons. She enjoyed working in her garden, quilting, and making dolls.
She is survived by:Husband, P.D. Edwards of rural Meade, Kansas [now deceased, a son, Bruce, a daughter, Konda, a brother, Kenneth; Five grandchildren, Caleb, Pauletta, Aland, John, and Brian, Two great-grandchildren, Aerial and Jacob. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lyman and Oliver Padgett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at the First Christian Church, Fowler, with Brother Kenneth Pitzer presiding. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will be in the Fowler Cemetery, Fowler. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association.
