Martha Mote, one of the oldest residents here died Monday Morning after a long illness, having been afflicted for many years, and being partly paralyzed, and having lost her sight several years ago. She was a very patient sufferer until death came to her relief. She was buried yesterday in Laketon cemetery, by the side of her husband, Wesley Mote, who passed away several years ago. The funeral sermon was preached in Wesleyan Church by Reverend Mr. Minor. Deceased was 82 years, 2mos, 1day old. Copied by Josephine Adonis (West)Price Mar 20, 1989 and added here by Roger L Price.

Martha was born in the state of Kentucky, Nov. 20, 1829 and was united in marriage Mar. 15, 1847. She states "at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 2 days'. She came to this state at the age of 4 in the year 1833. There was born to this union , nine children, of which, five are living to mourn and 4 have preceded her to the spirit world. She was baptised in a school house at age 25 and lived a christian life. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church. We thank everybody for concern and kindness to our dear Mother.
