******************
Marion Canfield, fifth son of Cyrus and Mary Canfield, was born near Pleasant Grove, Manchester Township, January 18, 1851. He came to North Hogan in 1857 with his parents and located on the farm which afterwards became his own and upon which he lived for 61 years until his death which occurred at 1:15 P.M. September 2, 1918 at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 14 days.

In 1870 he was united in marriage to Mollie Bowie. After just one year of wedded life he was deprived by death of his companion, but on November 20, 1873 he was united in the holy bonds of Matrimony to Catherine Warner by the Rev. Black of the Wilmington circuit. To this union four sons and one daughter were born, Wallace, Oliver, Everett, Royal, Emma (now Mrs. Rollie Creaser of Guilford, Ind.) All have been with him in his last illness except Oliver, who is serving his country and is now located at Camp Shelby, Miss.

The deceased has been afflicted for the past twelve years, but he was determined to battle until the end against adversities and sickness, and as he frequently said, "I will continue to do and move about as long as it is possible for me to do so."

Altho weak and frail of body he continued to do this to within a day of his death. The subject of this sketch was a man of strong character and personality. He never pretended to be what he was not. He never faltered in doing his duty toward his family, friends and neighbors and they bear witness to the fact that he held no ill will toward any of them. They can testify of his worth better than tongue or pen.

Mr. Canfield became a member of the Mt. Sinai church, twenty-five years ago and has since assisted in its support and we might add that he believed strictly in the church and the religion of the Master. During his illness his wife and children have attended him with devoted affection. They are bereft of a loving companion and father but they are consoled with the through of his own words when he said, "I will soon be at Home Overthere."

He leaves to mourn a wife, four sons, one daughter, eight grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Emmiline Buffington, of Huron, Ind., and a brother, Mr. W.W. Canfield, of New York City, besides many other relatives, and a host of friends.

The funeral services, which were very impressive and largely attended were held at Mt. Sinai church, Thursday, September 5th, 1918, at 2 P.M., and conducted by the Rev. Fischer of Moores Hill Circuit, among those present from a distance were Oliver Canfield, son of the deceased from Camp Shelby Miss., and W.W. Canfield (newspaper article truncated)
