Wense Lorey Cornelius was the oldest child of Albin and Johanna "Hannah" (Haglund) Cornelius. Both parents were born in Sweden, and his younger brother died in infancy.
Wense grew up in the Chicago area and married Frances Mabel Becker there on 31 March 1909. The couple had 11 children: Wense Francis (16 Sep 1911 - 29 May 1990); James Lorey (27 Aug 1913 - 28 Feb 1975); Howard Becker (29 June 1915 - 30 July 2001); Thomas Albin (21 Mar 1917 - 15 Jun 1917); John William (23 Apr 1918 -); Charles Walter (24 Aug 1919-); Hannah Catherine (Cornelius) Murray (4 June 1922 - 19 July 2003); Paul Lewis (12 Dec 1924-); Clarence Christinius (18 Nov 1926 - 2 July 1978); Robert Bruce (14 Jan 1928-); and Mabel Francine (Cornelius) Heinen (8 July 1929-). Wense worked many years on the railroad and after the family resided in King County, Washington from 1922 to the early 1930's they moved to the Los Angeles area. Wense died in Los Angeles 18 Apr 1956.
