The first relationship was with Lloyd Edwin Buffington (1886-1966), with whom she had a son. Her mother, Mary, refused to allow Maude to marry him because of his fondness for alcohol and as a result, helped raise the son.

He second relationship was with Walter August Dietrich (1877-1936), with whom she had a daughter and she was a housekeeper in his home. Walter's wife was in the State Hospital in Harrisburg until her death in December 1916 from tuberculosis. For some reason, Maude and Walter did not get along, so Maude moved out.

Her third relationship was with Frederick Fenzl (1892-1959), whom she married and had one son with.

Children: Maude had three children, one from each relationship. Her first child was Lloyd Edwin Buffington Jr. Her second child was Ellen Marie Dietrich, but she was raised by a Buffington family, so she mostly went by Ellen Marie Buffington. Her third child was Frederick Alvin Fenzl.
