Coy R. Clapp, 77, of Shelbyville died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Major Hospital.
Born April 27, 1931, in Union County, Tenn., he was the son of John Clapp and Mary "Ada" (Meltabarger) Clapp.
He married Shirley Jean Monroe on May 4, 1958, and she survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Cynthia Clapp and Melissa (husband, Tim) Drake of Shelbyville, and Linda (husband, Terry) Drake of Rushville; brother, Troy (wife, Anne) Clapp of Shelbyville; sister, Mary Ann (husband, Herb) Bowman of New Waverly; and grandchildren, Natalie Renee Drake, Jarrod Drake and Caleb Drake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and eight sisters.
Mr. Clapp had lived in the Shelbyville area since 1933.
He was employed in vehicle maintenance by the Military Department of Indiana for 34 years before retiring in 1986. He also was employed 40 years by the Indiana National Guard before retiring in 1991.
Mr. Clapp was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Korean War and several other Army commendation medals throughout his career. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4.
Mr. Clapp was a 1950 graduate of Waldron High School.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, serving as a deacon, choir member and Sunday school teacher; a member of the Waldron Masonic Lodge, where he was a former master; and a Meals on Wheels volunteer driver. He was a former member of the Baldwin Commandery-York Rite and Gideons International.
Mr. Clapp loved woodworking, camping, gardening, traveling, music and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Visitation were from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m., at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Love officiating.
Interment was in Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County, with graveside military services conducted by local veterans organizations.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Gideons International or the Waldron Masonic Lodge in care of Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Rd, Shelbyville IN 46176.
