Funeral Services For Edward Purcell Are Held Monday
Funeral services were held Monday morning fro Edward C. Purcell, 61, in St. Mary of t the Woods church with Rev. J. A. Gordon, in charge. Mrs. J. S. Harman presided at the organ and Francis Conley and Mrs. R. P. Callery sang. He was laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery. The casket bearers were Roy Harmon, Verne Fogerty, Leo Callery, James Long, Clem Noonen and J. S. Harmon.
Mr. Purcell, one of Princeville's well and favorably known citizens, was a prominent farmer, residing about three miles south of the village. He passed away unexpectedly in his home Friday afternoon while shoveling corn. His death was a real shock as he had not been ill or ailing.
He was born May 30, 1891, the son of John W. and Ann Morrissey Purcell, on the farm where he passed away. He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Colgan February 16, 1919 in Dunlap. A lifelong resident of this community, he was engaged in farming.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods church and the Spalding council, Knights of Columbus, in Peoria.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Edward Jr., and Joseph, both of Princeville; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Boylan of Princeville, Mrs.. Elizabeth Murphy of Wyoming and JoAnne Purcell at home; a sister Mrs. Julia McDonell; a brother, James Purcell of Edelstein; six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parent and one sister Marie.
