Every Saturday Daisy and Midge would scrub the kitchen floor on their hands and knees. (Each would start at opposite ends of the kitchen and meet in the middle.) Also on Saturdays, Daisy would blacken the stove, but before she did, she would do her baking for the week. There were dozens of loaves of bread, pies and occasionally a cake--if there was a birthday and usually there was someone celebrating one.
