Sister Eileen Barry, CSJ, formerly known as Sister Betilda Joseph, died on Thursday, April 22, 2004, at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham, NY. Sister was born in Holland Patent, NY, the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Jetty Barry. She was in the sixty-eighth year of her life as a sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
Sister Eileen attended school in Utica, NY, and received a Bachelors Degree from the College of Saint Rose, Albany, and a Masters degree in Special Education from Buffalo State University. Sister taught in Parochial Schools of the dioceses of Albany and Syracuse. She served as teacher and director of the Newtonville School for Children with Special Needs, which is now the School for the Disabled in Albany. She opened, directed and taught at the Carondelet Education center at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham.
Sister is survived by two sisters, Rita Winslow of Utica, Regina Brazill of Mesa, AZ; a brother, Thomas; a niece, Roseanne Murphy of Plattsburgh; and a nephew, William of Kansas City, MO.
The funeral will take place on Tuesday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Chapel at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham. Interment will take place in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery, Latham. Contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph Development Office, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.
