Rita Mae Barry Winslow, 90, died on July 21, 2007, at her home, Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility, in Plattsburgh, with her family.

Rita was born in Utica on Jan. 26, 1917, the daughter of Rose (Jetty) and Thomas Barry. She graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School, St. Francis de Sales High School in 1936 and the Excelsior School of Business, where she met the love of her life, the late Frank Winslow. During these years, she also worked in the credit department and main office of the Boston Store.

Rita and Frank, and it was always Rita and Frank, were married on Feb. 4, 1942. Their 57 years of marriage produced two children and a home that was open to anyone, particularly those without a place and anyone looking to celebrate holidays and the feast of St. Patrick!

Rita had a long love of music, nurturing young ones, family and nature €" passions that stayed with her to the end. She had an amazing capacity to love and care for anyone who entered her world.

Most of her life, she made her home in West Utica and Sylvan Beach, N.Y., with trips to her maternal homestead in St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec. Rita and Frank shared many close friendships, including the Perrys, the Floods, the Bachs, the Browns, the Zoecklers, the McCabes and the Winslow, Mabry and Barry clans. She especially appreciated the great kindness and friendship of her neighbors in Sylvan Beach, George and Phyllis Dombrowski and Dorothy Roth. Recently, Rita lived in Plattsburgh with her daughter and then with the Meadowbrook community. She was fortunate to live and be tenderly cared for by the staff and residents on 2W €" thank you so much.

Rita was predeceased by her husband, Frank €" a retired captain with the Utica Fire Department and an ordained deacon in the Diocese of Syracuse; her sister, Sister Eileen Barry CSJ; and her nephew, Barry Brazill. She is survived by her children, Paul and Becky Winslow of O'Fallon, Mo., and Roseanne and Gary Winslow Murphy of Plattsburgh; her sister, Regina Brazill, of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Thomas Barry; her niece Maria Brazill, who shared her home for a short time; her grandchildren, Cara (Winslow) and Todd Mayberry, Patrick and Stephanie Winslow, Cristin Murphy, Maggie Murphy and Dominic Winslow; and her great-grandchildren, Elwood, Cloe and Michele.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call today, Monday, July 23, 2007, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Nunn & McGrath Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. from the funeral home and 9 a.m. from the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
