Max Brummett, 79, of Canyon died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Resthaven Cemetery in Quitaque with the Rev. Lloyd Riddlespurger officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Max Brummett was born March 27, 1929, in Gasoline to Willie and Velma Brummett. He grew up in Gasoline and attended high school there, as well as in Quitaque. Max married Dorothy Ellis on Dec. 27, 1977, in Clovis, N.M. He worked for SPS for 23 years and retired in 1981. Max worked for Kids, Inc. for many years as a planner and as a coach of football, track and soccer. Max really enjoyed this work because of his love for children. Max regularly visited nursing homes on the weekends. Max loved his Lord and enjoyed reading his Bible. His favorite scripture was Numbers 23:19. Max was loved by everyone and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Horrall, Willard, Allen and Durrell; six sisters, Juanita, Mabel, Marie, Wynonna, Billy Jean and Gay; and a daughter, Nancy.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Dorothy Brummett; three sisters, Joy Donica and husband Dan of Dallas, Sharon Kell and husband Nolan of Quitaque and Delores McCellen and husband Rusty of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Barbara Hawkins of Wichita Falls and Judy Dickerson and husband Richard of Sao Paolo, Brazil; two sons, Larry Brummett and wife Renee and Robert Brummett and wife Maria, all of Canyon; three stepsons, David Keith of Salmon, Idaho, Michael Keith of Canyon and Richard Keith of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Deborah Easley of Amarillo; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
