The Valley Falls New Era.

Capt. Schaeffer Passed Away.

Israel B. SCHAEFFER died at 4 o'clock Thurday morning at the home of his son H.B in Oskaloosa. The funeral will be held Saturday morning and the body will be taken to Valley Falls for burial Saturday afternoon. Capt. Schaeffer was born in Center County, Pa., June 24, 1827. He moved to Kansas in 1866 settling in Valley Falls. Was Captain in the 7th Pa. Cavalry, serving 3 years, 4 months. He was married in 1855 to Mary W. SMYTH of Pa. To this union was born one child, Horace B., of Oskaloosa. His wife died in 1869 in Valley Falls. Two years later he was married to Alice KNAPP. One son, Arthur, of Muskogee, Okla., was born to them. His second wife died in December 1892.
>From ' 74 to ' 76 he was representative in the State Legislature. In Pa., he joined the Lutheran church but after moving to Valley Falls united with the Congregational church. Ten years ago he came to Oskaloosa making his home with his son H.B.
