Graham Carr was a deacon in the First Baptist Church, a member of the Idabel Chamber of Commerce and the McCurtain County Historical Society, and a scout leader. He was a World War II veteran.

Following his graduation from Heavener High School, Carr attended A & M, where he gained a degree in Industrial Arts Education. After the war, he and his family moved to Idabel, where he taught industrial arts for 30 years. He and Juanita Woolard were married Jan. 22, 1939 in Tishomingo. He drew many house and church plans before an architect was available in the area, and he did a lot of furniture refinishing.
