Funeral Services Set Saturday For Leah Walton
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. in the Auburn Ward chapel for Mrs Leah Walton, wife of the late Wm. Walton. Mrs Walton passed away Wednesday, June 22, at the Walton home in Auburn.
Leah H. Walton Dies at Home In Auburn
Leah Hurd Walton, 68, wife of late William W. Walton passed away at her home in Auburn on Wednesday, June 22, of complications from an extended illness. She was born in Snowville, Utah November 27, 1886 the daughter of Mark Hurd and Sarah Ann Green the second c child in a family of four girls and three boys.
The Hurd family moved to Star Valley in the fall of 1887, settling in Afton where Leah spent her early childhood and received her early schooling. Later the family moved to Grover where she lived until her marriage to William W. Walton on December 9, 1904, when she moved to Auburn.
She was the mother of seven children, four girls and three boys, two of whom preceded her in death a son Lester adn daughter Golda. Her husband preceded her in death by eight and a half months.
In 1909 her husband was called on a two-year LDS mission to the Southern States leaving her with two children to care for.
Leah was an ardent church worker. She served as Primary president, in the MIA presidency for many years, as Relief Society block teacher and as nursery teacher in the Junior Sunday school.
Surviving are tow sons Lyle and Evan of Auburn; three daughters Mrs Gwen (Velma) Rawlins of Lewiston, Utah; Mrs Norman (Gene) Johnson and Mrs Eryon (Eva) Johnson of Auburn.
Twenty-three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive; Others survivors include three brothers M.K.Hurd of Leadore, Idaho; Serell and Arnold of Grover; two sisters, Mrs James (Sarah) Sixon of Gooding Idaho; and Mrs Rulon (Edith) Speckman of Lewiston, Utah.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26 in the Auburn ward chapel with M.K. Hurd conducting.
Prayer in the home was by M.K. Hurd.
Elona Hillyard and Eldon Hyde played the prelude and postlude music.
The invocation was by Lloyd Hyde. Ernest Turner sang "Wonderful Mother of Mine" E.Lavere Johns was the first speaker followed by Pres. B. Delos Gardner.
"Roundup Time in Heaven" was sung by William and Iris Hurd. M.K. Hurd gave an expression of appreciation from the family, followed with another son by William and Iris Hurd, "In the Garden" Jesse Hurd offered the closing prayer.
The grave was dedicated by William Sessions.
Pallbearers were Forrest Walton; Noel Putnam, Junior Walton, LaVere Rawlins, Douglas Johnson and Clint Johnson.
Those attending the services from out of the valley were: Mr and Mrs Owen Rawlins and daughters Vera and J'Lene and sons LaVere and Rex, Mr and Mrs Francis Hurd, Mr and Mrs James Dixon, Mr and Mrs Rulon Spackman, Mrs Frances Stroud, Mr and Mrs theron Porter, Mrs Bud Layne, Mr and Mrs William Hurd, Mr and Mrs Ernest Foss, Mrs Harold Warren, Mrs Hattie Bate, Mrs Lydia Ottensen, Mr and Mrs Forrest Walton and children Robert, Vicki and Brenda, Mr Leon Poorman, Mrs William Baker, Mr and Mrs Jesse Wood, Mrs Grant Wood, Mr and Mrs Everett Walton, Miss Darlene Putnam, Miss Adell Nelson and Mrs Lynn Johnson.
