Francis Marion Kizer was born in Alabama. He joined Company A/N, 15th MO Cav, CSA (Capt. Timothy Reeves' Missouri Scouts) on March 26, 1862 in Pocahontas. He was captured by Union forces on December 25, 1863 in Ripley County, MO. He left Pilot Knob, MO on Dec. 31, 1863 and was taken to St. Louis. Received at Gratiot Street Military Prison on Jan. 5, 1864; moved to Rock Island Barracks, Ill Prison on Feb. 5, 1864; transferred for exchange on January 17, 1865 to New Orleans; exchanged at Red River Landing (northern Pointe Coupee Parish, LA) on March 4, 1865.
