Funeral for Martin J. Wendel, 81, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Ingalls, the Rev. Dermot Tighe officiating.

Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.

He died Feb. 8, 1989, at Heritage of Cimarron Nursing Home, Cimarron.

Born April 30, 1909, at Ellinwood, he married Melva M Batman Oct.13 1928, at Garden City.

Mr. Wendel was a retired farmer and stockman and had been a Gray County resident since 1926. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Ingalls.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, LeRoy and Charles, both of Ingalls, and Donald of Sallisaw Okla.; three daughters, Alice Scott, Cimarron, Ines Thomas, Dodge City, and Margaret Schiffner, Ensign; a brother John Wendel, Ingalls; two sisters, Lena Remmert, Denver and Esther Wendel, Montezuma; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call until 7 p.m. today and from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Burkhart Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron, and from 4 p.m. Friday until service time Saturday at the church.

Memorials to the Gray County Ambulance Fund, in care of the funeral chapel.


Brother to Magalene Anne Remmert, Mary Sophia Schauf, Joanna Frances (never married), Lillian Elizabeth Dreiling, Esther Veroncia (never married), Gertrude Marie Bouchard, John Ambrose, Ines Pauline (died as infant) and Delores Marie Miller.

Father to Ines Noreen Thomas, Donald Martin, Dennis Leroy, Charles Wesley, Pearl Margaret Rollman Schiffner, and Alice Marie Scott.
