Son of Squire Jennings and Mary Cook Jennings. Married Martha Ann Curtis on October 9, 1865 in Lawrence County, Missouri.

Newspaper article printed in the Douglas County Herald in 1903: "Died at Ponce De Leon Springs Stone county, Missouri, on July 3rd, 1903 at the age of 63 years, of cancer of the stomach and Brights disease, Mr. Dempsey C. Jennings, of Rome, Mo. Mr. Jennings was born in Caldwell county, Ky., in 1840 and moved to Missouri in 1849. He served three years in the Union Army. He had lived a Christian life for over thirty years and was a member of the Methodist church. He has been afflicted for several years with a cancer of the stomach and Brights disease and about three months ago took very bad; went to Henderson, Mo. for treatment. He took treatment for one month when the doctor told him that he could not cure him so he went to Ponce De Leon Springs, Stone county Missouri and died there July 3rd. He leaves a wife and seven children and a host of friends to mourn his loss."

Early Settlers of Douglas County Missouri by Bessie Janet (Woods) Selleck - June 3, 1952; Page 135-136: JENNINGS, DEMPSEY C. married MARTHA A. CURTIS. He was born in Kentucky, she, in Tennessee. They came to Missouri with their parents and settled in Lawrence County where they were married. They are living (11894) in Stone County, at Ponce de Leon Springs. They formerly lived on a farm at Rome which they still own.

"DEMPSEY C. JENNINGS was a soldier in Company D, 6th Missouri Calvary and served throughout the war. He lost his eyesight from the effects of the war and draws a government pension. Their children were:
1 -- RACHEL A. JENNINGS, who married GEORGE M. SILVER.
2 -- MARY E. JENNINGS, married JAMES MAXWELL of Stone County.
3 -- WILLIAM JENNINGS, of Stone County.
4 -- THOMAS JENNINGS
5 -- TELA J. A. JENNINGS
6 -- ETHEL T. JENNINGS
7 -- ELENDER JENNINGS
