He married Ula Vivian Pateman, Sept. 8, 1938, in the Manti LDS temple. She preceded him in death May 12, 1995.
After Ula's passing, Howard moved to South Jordan, where he met and married Julia May Ross, Sept. 29, 2001, for time, in the Jordan River LDS temple.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different callings, including more than 25 years as an ordinance worker in the Manti, Provo and Jordan River LDS temples. He and Ula served in the California, San Bernardino Mission. They also served at Cove Fort, with Howard continuing after Ula's health made it difficult for her to continue. He enjoyed his service and association with the Laminites.

He was also actively involved with the Scouting program.

Funeral services were Oct. 11, in the Richfield LDS 1st, 3rd and 11th LDS ward with Bishop Bill Crane officiating. Compassionate services were provided by the Richfield LDS 10th ward Relief Society.

A family prayer was offered by Larry Jones, (son), and the invocation was given by Travis Jones, (grandson).

Musical selections included a medley of primary songs performed by great-grandchildren, directed by Kim LeMmon, (granddaughter), and accompanied by Meagan Lambertsen, (great-granddaughter); " These Hands" performed by Laura Babcock, Joy Babcock, and Rebecca Christiansen; and a congregational hymn, "God Be With You," directed by Kim LeMmon, accompanied by Nicole LeMmon.
