Ray D. Aschbrenner, 67, of Waverly, died Thursday, Oct. 23, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of heart failure.
He was born Dec. 2, 1940, in Harlan, son of Ernie H. and Alma Hills Aschbrenner. On Nov. 17, 1962, he married Mary Hinders at St. John Lutheran Church, Waverly.
He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego. Mr. Aschbrenner worked for a service station in Cedar Falls before moving to Waverly where he worked at the Waverly Dairy, Shield Bantam and Bremer County Maintenance Shed. In 1979 he went to work for Viking Pump, Cedar Falls, retiring in 2001 after 22 years of service in the machine shop.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Waverly, and while at Viking Pump he helped organize and was past president of the "Stock Busters Club."
Survived by: his wife; a son, Duane (Renee) of Waverly; a daughter, Diana (Robert) Steffen of Waverly; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Alma Aschbrenner of Windsor Care Center, Cedar Falls; a brother, Harold (Shirley) of New Hampton; a sister, Joyce (Jim) Williamson of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in-law, Rosa Aschbrenner of Cedar Falls.
Preceded in death by his father; his stepmother, Esther Heldenmaier Aschbrenner; a sister, Lorraine in infancy; two brothers, George and Melvin; and a grandson.
Service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #2208.
Memorials may be directed to the church.
