Harold "Archie" Otto Aschbrenner, 81, of New Hampton, IA, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton. His passing following a decade with Dementia/Alzheimer's obstacles.

A celebration of Life Memorial will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday October 14, 2016, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, 218 2nd Street S.E., Waverly, IA, with Pastor Brad Wysomierski officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Aschbrenner was born February 5th, 1935, in Harlan, IA, the eldest son of Ernest Aschbrenner and Alma Lorraine (Hills) Aschbrenner. He married Betty Benning on November 15, 1953, in Nashua, Iowa, and later divorced in 1973. Archie remarried shortly after to Shirley (Heidemann) Sommerfelt on June 30th, 1973 in Janesville, Iowa.

Surviving are his wife Shirley Aschbrenner of New Hampton, IA; his daughter Mary Speicher (Larry) of Waterloo, IA; his son Doug (Kris) Aschbrenner of Evansdale, IA; his daughter Beck Aschbrenner (Diana) of Brooklyn Center, MN; his son Buddy Aschbrenner of Cedar Rapids; his son Quentin Aschbrenner of Brooklyn Center, MN; his daughter Tonya Folkerts (Rex) of Osage, IA; his daughter Cindy Mullins of New Hampton, IA; his son Mike Pierce (Donna) of Clarksville, IA; his son Cliff Pierce (Georgjean) of Sumner, IA; his daughter Mary Seely (Chad) of Camanche, IA; his son John Sommerfelt of Cedar Rapids, IA; his sister Joyce Williamson (Jim) of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lorraine Aschbrenner; and his brothers, George, Melvin and Ray Aschbrenner.

Mr. Aschbrenner wasn't fond of school so his educational journey ended in the 8th grade at Irwin School District in Irwin, IA. He decided to join his dad on the railroad where he was a section laborer for the Minnesota Division-MG & FD Railroad Lines from 1952-1958.

He then was inducted into the United States Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged for total hearing loss of the left ear. He moved onto work as a dry milk operator at Carnation in Waverly, IA from 1959-1969. From 1969-1973 he had multiply part-time jobs one being a short haul truck driver delivering candy to vending machines. As well as working for Morris Paints in Waterloo, IA.

In addition to those he also worked as a custodian for Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. Then from 1974-1976 he worked for Owatonna Minnesota tree company trimming trees. Then he did work for Ellendale, Mn Grain Elevators Mills. By 1976 he had joined his brother Melvin as a spray painter for Universal Industries of Cedar Falls, IA where he was later layed off in December of 1985. In 1987 after moving to Texas he found his passion as a head custodian for the Lewisville Independent School District working at Hedrick Elementary in Lewisville, TX until 1991 when he retired.

Mr. Aschbrenner enjoyed various hobbies and activities such as bowling, roller skating, horseback riding, playing the harmonica and drums while listening to his favorite tunes, a variety of dancing, taking pictures, playing cards and hot dice, putting together car models and doing paint by number.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather of 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, uncle, as well as a loyal friend. He was an extraordinary and generous man who cared deeply for family and friends.
