Acie Alexander Armstrong, 90, of Casa Grande, died March 15, 2006.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel. The funeral there will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. Armstrong was born Sept. 4, 1915 in Bluffton, Arkansas, the youngest son of John J. and Susan Barnes Armstrong.

Part of a farming family, he spent his early years migrating between Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. He learned the art of farming and loved to tell his family of his adventures.

He was a self-taught man of many skills, an excellent carpenter, mechanic and smithy. He was proud of being a dependable, hard worker and that he had earned "man's wages" at age 12.

In 1953 he became a laborer for the Pinal County Highway Department. He earned the nickname "Governor" as he insisted that the job be done right and safely. He retired 25 years later as road foreman for District 3, based in Casa Grande.

He became a Christian during his 20s. He was a charter member and deacon of Trinity Southern Baptist Church and most recently was a member of Grace Church.

Mr. Armstrong was a life member of the Masonic lodge in Bluffton. He was devoted to his family and took great delight in family gatherings and hunting and fishing with his sons.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Cook of Tombstone; three sons, Charles and Jerry Armstrong of Casa Grande and Bobby Armstrong of Glendale; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Willene (Mobley), in 1988; his wife of 12 years, Winfred B. (Menzler), in 2002; and a son, Harry V. Armstrong, in 1951.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church or RTA Hospice Foundation, 1675 E. Monument Plaza Drive, Casa Grande, AZ 85222.
