PIONEER PASSES AWAY

Mrs. G. W. Briskey Striken With Apoplexy Dec 23, Lived Here 23 Years

The subject of this sketch came to Leavenworth twenty-three years ago, from Bicklton, coming originally from the state of Alabama, and settled on the homestead south of town where the family has ever since continued to reside. Mrs. Briskey was in her fifty-six year. For the past few years she had not been in robust health and spent much of her time at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Andrews, who resides on the north side of the track, where she died Saturday, Dec. 23, at 1:30, of what the doctors pronounce apoplexy. Mrs. Briskey leaves a husband, two sons, Olin and William, and three daughters, Mrs. Andrews, and Mary and Susie, all of whom make their home here. Mrs. Briskey was a woman of excellent character, a gentle mother and a loving wife, and often ministered to the wants and sufferings of the unfortunates. Having lived here so long she was widely known and universally esteemed by the whole community.

Mary Eliza Frances Beard Briskey was born January 1, 1856, at Whitewell, Georgia. Moved to Alabama in 1872. married to G. W. Briskey, December 16, 1880, at Milltown, Chambers county, Alabama. In 1885 they moved to Bickleton, Washington, coming to Leavenworth, at that time called Icicle, in the spring of 1888.

To this union was born six children, two sons and four daughters. One daughter preceded her to the great beyond.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational church under the direction of W. H. Hamilton, of the Wenatchee Undertaking Co., the Rev. Davis conducting the religious services. The remains were buried in the Leavenworth cemetery. An unusually large number of people attending the services and accompanying the body to the last resting place.
