Mrs. Mary L, Cahail, 85, of Rt. 1, a pioneer resident of Leavenworth, died Monday morning in Cascade General Hospital following a short Illness. Mrs. Cahail was born August 15, 1886 at Bickelton, Wash., and as a baby, moved with her parents, the late George and Molly Brisky, to Leavenworth, where they homesteaded. She attended school at a rural school in Peshastin, until a school was established near the homestead. In 1909 she moved to Toppenish, where she was chosen Princess Toppenish, to represent Toppenish at Seattle's "Golden Potlatch". A year later, she returned to Leavenworth. In 1915 she married Jim Cahail, who preceded her in death three years later.
In 1965 she was chosen Chelan County "Pioneer of the Year" by the Old Settler's Association at the Old Timers Picnic.
Surviving is one nephew, James Fromm of Quincy; several cousins, including Mrs. Alice Lee of Cashmere, Mrs, Helen Guy of Leavenworth and Mrs. Carrie Cummins of Dryden. Mrs. Cahail was preceded to death by her husband, two brothers, Olin and Willie Brlsky and 2 sisters, Mrs. Sue Fromm and Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cahail were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Ward's Funeral Chapel with members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Quincy, officiating. Pallbearers were Pat Fromm, Eric Fromm, Curtis Chase, George Van Brocklin, Stan Brender, and Howard Templeton. Joyce Peterson sang "In the Garden" and "O My Father", accompanied by Valene Bell on the organ.
Concluding services and interment followed in the Mt. View Cemetery. Ward's Funeral Chapel of Leavenworth was in charge of arrangements.
