Jehu Grubb came to Ohio in 1811 from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was the unacknowledged son of Curtis Grubb, the Cornwall, Pennsylvania, patriot and ironmaster. Jehu, through his son George, is the ancestor of all the Grubb family members interred at St. Jacob's.
Jehu served in the War of 1812, was a farmer, a Justice of the Peace, and served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives as a Democrat. He had twelve children by three wives. Twice widowed, he lies here beside his third wife Elizabeth Harter, herself the widow of Abraham Bair. Jehu lived in Plain Twp., where his step-son built, in 1867, the beautiful and historic Jacob H. Bair house, still standing today.
Jehu Grubb's history is memorialized in the plaque placed next to him by the family in 2004.
Description of Jehu, "six feet tall if not more, black hair and eyes, dark complexion."
*one document names his 1st wife as Catrina Simon
*the DAR also concluded that Jehu was the son of Curtis Grubb. Jehu was identified in the 1790 will of Curtis Grubb Jr who left 50 pounds for his support and education.
