Second child born to Ignatius James and Veronica Elena (Matejcik) Babusiak. In 1935, married Josephine Wanda Horn. Father to Laverne J. (Osterhus) and John Julius Nicholas, Jr. John and Josephine divorced and in 1956, he married Patricia Ann Kabot. Together they had three sons, Michael John, Thomas Joseph and Steven Paul.
