Bernia (Bernice) Louise Wallace Moore was born in Plumerville, Arkansas and died in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bernia, the eighth of sixteen children born to Sydney Edward Wallace and Amelia Broughton Wallace, moved from Plumerville, Arkansas to Muskogee County, Oklahoma with her family sometime between 1922 and 1925 where she attended Old Agency School. Thereafter, her father moved the family to a farm in Tullahassee, and she enrolled at Mark Hannah School, a 2-room country school. The completed the 8th grade - the highest grade the school offered at that time. She loved school and began reading at the age of 4. She was also proud of being on the Girls Basketball team. They played other girls teams in the small all-Black towns around Tullahassee.

On Christmas day 1932, she married Granville Smith, Jr. (known as G. C.) at her family's home in Tullahassee. AFter 14 years of marriage that marriage ended in 1948.

Bernia and the children - Barbara, Doris, Lincoln, Amelia and William moved to Tulsa in 1946. She also joined St. Andrew Baptist Church that year and remained a faithful and active member until her death.

Many years after moving to Tulsa, she met Hal Carter and they had one daughter, Hal Freda Carter. She raised six children as a working single parent.

On January 10, 1980, she married Charlie Moore of Sasakwa, Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bernia died at 96 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa from kidney failure and other causes. Her funeral was held November 4, 2006 at St. Andrew Baptist Church in Tulsa with pastor Rev. Dr. Bertrand M. Bailey, Sr. officating

She is survived by her husband Charlie, six children, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
