October 9, 1892, Ole Gilbert Herreid was united in marriage with Mattie Paine, who was born at Madelia, Minnesota, 21 Sep 1870 the daughter of William G. and Julia (Dale) Paine. Her father died before 1880.

Mr. and Mrs. Herreid had thirteen children, ten surviving in 1933

Her father William was born in Wrentham, Mass., of Scotch-Irish stock and in early life was a sailor; going to sea on his uncle’s whaling vessel at the age of 14 years. After five years spent in this adventurous employment, the Civil War having broken out, he enlisted in the Eighth Rhode Island Artillery and served three years. On the conclusion of his term of service he engaged in the hotel business at St. Cloud, Minnesota, having come west with a military company under the command of General Sibley, which company disbanded at St. Cloud. Later he engaged in business at Madelia, Minnesota, where after a residence of seven years, he died (before 1880 census in Madela, Watonwan, MN)

Her mother, Julia (Dale) Paine Johnson who was born in Norway, is now residing with Mattie in Ettrick Township. By her marriage with Mr. Paine, she (Julia) had three children (Mattie, Charles, and Ethel) and after his death, she became the wife of Ed Johnson, who subsequently died in this township. Of this latter union two children were born: Lottie Cornelia Johnson and Omer Benjamin Johnson.
