William Phelps Stone died Wednesday morning, July 25, 1911 at the home of his son Vedder, at the age of seventy-eight years three months eighteen days.

William P. Stone was born near Rochester, N.Y. April 8, 1833 and came to Illinois when he was eight years of age, settling with his parents on a farm at Long Grove, where he lived until 1849, when he left his home for the gold fields in California, spending his seventeenth birthday on the plains.

At the age of twenty-four years he was married to Elizabeth Hill. To this union one child was born, Nellie E., the wife of Richard Grantham of Cary Illinois. The mother died when Nellie was but five years of age.

January 11, 1870, he was united in marriage to Cynthia B. Saltmarsh who departed this life May 22, 1904. To this union four children were born.

He leaves five children: Mrs Nellie E. Grantham of Cary, Mrs Lillis I. Sheldon of Libertyville, Mrs Minnie Wrate of Sterling, Illinois, Vedder W. and Everett L. Stone of Wauconda, to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father.

Besides his children he leaves one stepdaughter, Mrs E. M. Pettingill of Chicago, two sisters, Mrs Jane Howard of Schafer, N.D., Mrs. Clara Tinney of Minneapolis, Minn., sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of more distant relatives.

Funeral was held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the M.E.Church, Rev. Fleet Officiating. Burial at the Wauconda Cemetery, ceremony at the grave being conducted by the Wauconda Masonic lodge of which he had been a member for several years. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
