Andreas Smeltz or Schmeltz was christened in Evangelical Parish, Wiera, Germany. Andreas, along with his brothers Johan Adam, and Johannes, were HESSIAN SOLDIERS in their homeland
of die Schwalm, Hesse, Germany. They were also close friends of the Schwalm family, and are referenced in their genealogical publication: "Johannes Schwalm, The Hessian", published by the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association, Precision Printers, Inc., Milville, PA., 17846, 1976, pg. 106. Together these soldiers were engaged by England to fight against the English patriots. Being German, however, they saw how their German AMERICAN "cousins" were living in the new land, and this propelled many of them to desert their own companies and remain in America after the Revolution, living out their lives and producing families. History on Andreas Smeltz, including his German homeland and ancestors, is found in the publication: The Descendants of Andreas Schmeltz 1751-1834, compiled by Robert G. Fisher, 1995. Andreas's will can be found in this publication naming his wife and children.
