HANNAH E. (SHADLE) DELL, 1939, Duncansville, Blair County, PA Death claimed Duncansville's oldest resident, Mrs. Hannah Elizabeth Dell, on Saturday evening at 7 o'clock at her home, 536 Third Avenue, that place. She had been in failing health for the past several months, but was bedfast for less than one week. Death was attributed to a complication of ailments incident to her advanced years. Mrs. Dell was in her 95th year and most of her long life was spent as a resident of the Duncansville locality.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1844, at the Foot of Nine, west of Duncansville, a daughter of John and Apalona (Burke) Shadle. In her younger life she often rode on the Old Portage Railroad and in succession every other mode of transportation except by air. On Jan. 31, 1864, she was united in marriage with Peter Dell, who had been injured in the Civil war and returned home, the ceremony taking place at Claysburg. To the union ten children were born, of whom four survive her: Elinas M Dell of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Albert Adams of Cross Keys and Mrs. Appie Wilt and Mrs Lydia Harris, both of Duncansville. Mr. Dell died on Oct. 22 1929. She also leaves twenty-five grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, and our great-great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last member of her family. For more than fifty years Mrs. Dell was a faithful member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren and until recent years attended the services regularly. Although maintaining her interest in the work of the church, her infirmities kept her from attending many of the services but it was only a few months ago she was able to be present at special services. The body may be viewed at the residence until the time of the funeral. Dated: April 8, 1939 for death date.
