JAMES COLLINS DIES

James C. Collins, retired farmer living on West Grand River street, died at his home at 5 a.m. Sunday from general debility due to his advancing years. He had been bedfast only a week, though his health had been gradually failing.

James Carey Collins was born October 2, 1850, in Fayette, Howard County, Mo., where he grew to manhood. He and Miss Winifred Shindler were united in marriage in 1878 and two children were born to their union: Edgar O. Collins of Johnstown, Colo., and Arthur, who died July 19, 1924. April 8, 1884, his wife died with the request that her husband find a helpmate and mother for her children in her sister, Susan Shindler. As Mrs. Collins wished, Susan Shindler and Mr. Collins were married August 22, 1884, and the home continued blessed by the love of this good woman who survives her husband. To them were born nine children, four of whom survive.

Mr. Collins united with the Westfield Cumberland Church in 1895 and in 1898 came with his family to Henry County, settling near Garland, which was his home until three years ago when he moved to Clinton. He was a good and kindly man, industrious and friendly, always ready to help his neighbors, being especially thoughtful for those in trouble.

He is survived by his widow, sons, Edgar of Johnstown, Colo.; Ira and Henry, and daughters Mrs. W. H. Malone and Charles Yewell of Clinton; two half sisters, Mrs. Jeff Gilbert of Clinton and Mrs. Kathryn Cathcorn of Kansas City.

The funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Monday from the Wilkinson Funeral Home, preached by the Rev. A.N. Linsday, and the body was laid to rest in Fields Creek cemetery.
