Logging Accident Causes Man's Death
Vaude Sutherland, 35, an employee of the Bohemia lumber company, died Wednesday evening at the Eugene hospital from injuries received in a logging accident on Culp Creek, Wednesday afternoon. Mr Sutherland was struck by a small tree as it snapped back into place after having been pulled to one side by a trip line. Wayne Vaughn of Dorena was also injured slightly.
Mr. Sutherland was taken to Cottage Grove, and later brought to the hospital. Charles P. Poole, county coroner, investigated the accident.

Funeral services for Vaude Sutherland, who was killed Thursday in a logging accident on Culp Creek, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Poole chapel. Internment will be at Marcola, Rev. Frank Cook will officiate.
Mr. Sutherland was born July 16, 1903, at Fall City, Ore. and when a baby moved with his family to Marcola. For a year and a half before his death, he lived at Culp Creek. He married Della James, June 4, 1928, at Grants Pass. Besides his wife, Mr. Sutherland is survived by two daughters, Evelyn and Cleona; his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Irish of Marcola; four sisters, Mrs. Olive Clark of Oakridge, Mrs. O.S. Woodard of Cottage Grove, Mrs. Edna Bunch of Wendling, and Mrs. Henry Mosteller of Hayesville, N.C., and two brothers. Jack Irish of Marcola, and Ralph Irish.
