J C Wilcox, an old and highly reported citizen of Marshall, died at his home at eight o'clock Thursday morning, August 20, at the age of 82 years. He had been in very feeble health for some time and his death had not been wholly unexpected for sometime.

The funeral will be held today in the Marshall Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, of which he had been an extempary for 45 years.

J C Wilcox was born April 28, 1832 in North Carolina. In early childhood he moved to East Tennessee where he resided for several years.

About December 23, 1872, he settled in Searcy County in Marshall and has lived her ever since.

In 1861 while living in Tennessee, he enlisted in the Confederate army and served through the war not receiving a single wound.

"Uncle Jesse," as he was familiarly known, had been married three times. He was first married to Miss Horton in East Tennessee. One child was born to this union which died in infancy. His second marriage was to Malinda Phillips. To this union were born nine children, six of who are living. They are J A, J J, E M and Mrs. H J Whitlock, of Arkansas, W T of Oklahoma, and J L of Texas. This third and last marriage was to Salle C Robertson, and five children were born to this union, all living. They are Mrs. Wayne Horton of Plant; Mrs. Floyd Horton, Mrs. Marvin Gray, Mrs. Roy Horton, and Sylvans Wilcox of Marshall. Mrs. Wilcox still survives.
