Berrien Springs

"Emmet O. Ramer, 80, 104 West Julius st., a well known resident of Berrien Springs for the past 30 years, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday in Mercy hospital, Benton Harbor, where he had been admitted as a patient last Friday. He had been ill for the past two years.

Mr. Ramer was born in Huntington, Ind., Jan. 24, 1874, the son of Peter and Elizabeth Ream Ramer. His marriage to the former Alice R. Shearer took place in St. Joseph, Nov. 1, 1896.

Mr. and Mrs. Ramer lived on a farm in Royalton township and moved to Berrien Springs in 1924. Mr. Ramer was employed by the late Graham O. McOmber and then worked for Clark Equipment Co. for twenty years prior to his retirement in 1949. The Ramers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1946.

Mr. Ramer was a member of the Berrien Springs Odd Fellows lodge.

He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Harold Hart, of South Bend, and Mrs. Herbert Neitz, of Rochester, Minn. He also leaves three grandchildren, Mrs. Keith Hand, of Coloma; Mrs. John Pavlick, Jr., of Benton Harbor; Robert Hart, of South Bend; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. C. V. Richardson, of St. Joseph; Mrs. Cash Lawrence, of Berrien Springs; Mrs. Charles Salesman, of Mishawaka, Ind., and several nieces and nephews."

"Funeral services for Emmett O. Ramer, 80, a well known Berrien Springs resident for the past 30 years, were held at 2:30 this afternoon in the Griner Funeral Home. Mr. Ramer died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday in Mercy Hospital, Benton Harbor.

The Rev. William Y. Polhy, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated.

Burial was in Spring Run cemetery, Scottdale. Casket bearers were six nephews: Hugh Terry, Harold Jones, Ralph Burkett, Charles Shearer, James Caldwell and Jack Richardson."
