JAMES BROADFOOT GOINGS born 08 May 1848 in Strawberry, Lawrence County, Arkansas was the 8th and last child of ABSALOM JEFFERSON AND PARTHENIA GOINGS. James was born in Arkansas, but Absalom's other 7 children were born in Kentucky.
By the time James was 11 yrs old (1860), Absalom had moved his family from Arkansas to Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri and most of the family lived out their lives in this area of Missouri.
Around 1883 the eldest son of James' oldest brother, Charles C Goings, had met and married a young lady named ELIZABETH RAY. Charles and "Lizzie" had 3 children, but the oldest daughter only lived approximately 1 year. In 1888 Charles and Lizzie divorced and Charles moved to St Louis leaving Lizzie and the children in Poplar Bluff. On 17 Oct 1889 in Ripley County, Missouri, James married Lizzie and took her 2 children by Charles, William Francis abd Margaret Arminda Goings, to raise as his own.
