Taken from obit in Buffalo Reflex: James H. Chastain, son of George N. and Elizabeth Dame Chastain, was born Sep.10, 1884 in Laclede County, Missouri, near Bennett Spring. He departed this life in the Burge Hospital in Springfield Missouri on April 9, 1968.
On Feb. 15, 1903 he was married to Bertie Ethel Scott. They moved to Eldorado Kansas in October of 1926 and lived there until Mar. 1, 1968 when due to failing health they came to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Fred Poe of Halfway Missouri.
Two sons, Norman and Earnest preceded him in death. Survivors: his wife, Bertie, three sons: Irven of Charter Oak, IA, Ivan of Halfway MO and Dale of Eldorado KS; three daughters: Thelma Dale of Wichita KS, Audrey Poe of Halfway MO and Inez Scott of Bolivar MO, 23 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and one brother, G.W. Chastain of Buffalo. Services held April 12, 1968 at Pitts Chapel, Bolivar MO under direction of Pitts Funeral Home, Bro. Arlie Williams officiating. Burial in the Flatwoods cemetery.
